The longer I play, the more I find that many of the best and most brilliant moves involve pushing a pawn past the 6th rank. Whether it's a discovered attack/check, forcing the opponent to open up a file to infiltrate the back rank, forcing them to keep an otherwise dangerous rook on the back rank to prevent promotion, etc. My only brilliant move was a similar, c7 with a discovered attack on the rook, and also attacked a knight preventing check by the queen.

Vishy Anand is a class act. In games where Carlsen had beaten him in the WC, he stayed for the full length of the analysis, answering all the insulting and ridiculous questions people were asking him ("what do you tell your fans after losing this game?" etc etc). Compare him to Carlsen, who storms out of interviews in mere seconds. For all Carlsen's skill, he lacks the character to lose well. I don't look up to Carlsen, but I absolutely look up to Anand.

    21 ditë më parë

@Arpan Mukherjee I just tested on a few different engines without any databases. Black Diamond IX (2020) found h6 in 0.041 seconds using just 4-cpu's. Chessmaster 10K (2006) found it in 1.78 seconds on 1-cpu. Crafty 25.2 (2017) took 3.7 seconds on 1-cpu. Deep Junior 10.1 (2003) took 1.543 seconds on 1-cpu. Shredder 8 (2004) took 27.484s on 1-cpu..... and 0.281s on 4-cpu's. Spike 1.2 (2006) took just 0.237s on 1-cpu. So as you can see, most engines, even very old engines, find it quite fast without referring to any databases. And you can try it yourself. Go download different engines and run your own test for verification.

  • Corteum9000

    Corteum9000

    21 ditë më parë

@Arpan Mukherjee No, Rybka 3 found it purely using its own algorithms. There is no "Ryvka 3 database". Rybka 3 was created in 2008. It's old as the hills. You obviously don't know much about chess engines. I have almost every chess engine out there, with the exception of Alpha Zero, Ferret, Deep Blue, Deep Thought, and other private engines. I'm also not aware of any engines that use databases to find moves that lie outside the opening phase. In any case, I don't run engine testing with databases on. Any databases are always turned off. And I don't use online chess engines.

  • Arpan Mukherjee

    Arpan Mukherjee

    21 ditë më parë

Because after the move had been played, it was recorded probably in it's database. Modern engines use databases for reference instead of brute force like Deep Blue.
